The City of San Antonio held the ground breaking ceremony for UTSA Blvd. on Monday May 9th. The event was attended by District 8 Councilman Ron Nirenberg; UTSA President Ricardo Romo; City Engineer and Director of Transportation & Capital Improvements Mike Frisbie, PE; and President of Vickrey & Associates, Inc. (VICKREY) Brenda Vickrey Johnson.

As Prime Consultant, VICKREY completed the design that widened 4,200-lf of UTSA Blvd from an existing two-lane street to a four-lane street with median and left-turn lanes in accordance with TxDOT’s schematics and the City’s Complete Street standards. The improved street will have 10-ft wide shared-use paths on both sides of the street with separation from the street’s traveled lanes to provide safe pedestrian and bike traffic. The design calls for traffic signals at Roadrunner Way and Babcock Rd to be upgraded to include ADA-compliant pedestrian signal heads and crosswalks. Additional traffic and turn lanes to west bound UTSA Blvd at the Roadrunner Way intersection will offer traffic congestion relief for UTSA students, faculty and staff, and provide critical access for housing and commercial development.
